After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Shelby-Rising City, Mead was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Heartland Huskies 56-30. The Raiders' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Mason Reed was his usual excellent self, rushing for 115 yards and three TDs on only ten carries, while also throwing for 150 yards and three touchdowns. He is becoming a predictor of Mead's success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). A healthy portion of Reed's aerial production (81 yards to be exact) went to Tony Engel, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mead was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 258 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
When it comes to explaining why Heartland lost, don't look at Nevada Gloystein. Despite the final result, he rushed for 171 yards and four scores. Gloystein's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 106 rushing yards.
The win got Mead back to even at 4-4. As for Heartland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Mead didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-6 defeat against Pender on the 23rd. Heartland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
