Softball Recap: Manzano Monarchs vs. Santa Fe Demons
Manzano had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 5-17 to make it six. They came up short against the Santa Fe Demons, falling 8-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Demons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-4 on Monday.
Kiara Laweka made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two doubles.
As for Santa Fe, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. They not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 14-3).
On Santa Fe's side, Leah Gutierrez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up 14 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on A'Mya Jeselink, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Prada, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manzano will head out to face off against Eldorado at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
