Volleyball Recap: Gilroy Falls Despite Big Games from Brooke Rogers and Bella Gutierrez

If Gilroy was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Yerba Buena on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs fell just short of the Lincoln Lions by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Gilroy sadly wound up on the wrong side. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-27, 25-17, 18-25, 15-10.

Bella Gutierrez and Brooke Rogers certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Gutierrez had 28 digs and five assists, while Rogers had 22 digs and two aces. Rogers is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served two or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Gilroy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Lincoln, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-10 record this season.

Gilroy has already played their next contest, a 3-2 loss against Mountain View on the 20th. As for Lincoln, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Yerba Buena on the 21st.
