Basketball Recap: Liberty Chargers vs. Haines City Hornets

The Liberty Chargers lost against the Haines City Hornets back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Liberty was beaten by the Hornets 75-14. While losing is never fun, Liberty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 552nd, while the Hornets are ranked 87th).

When it comes to explaining why Liberty lost, one person who can't be blamed is India Smith. Despite the final result, she scored six points along with four steals.

It was another big night for Arissa Jenkins, who scored 45 points for Haines City. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Jenkins has scored all season. Zebrelle Canaday was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.

Liberty's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-12. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.3 points per game. As for Haines City, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.

Liberty will head out on the road to take on the Yellow Jackets at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Haines City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with George Jenkins sitting on three straight wins and the Hornets on four.
