Baseball Recap: Dodge City Comes Up Short

Dodge City had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-11 to make it four. They lost 13-5 to the Garden City Buffaloes. The Demons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Buffaloes earlier this season, when they won 12-6.

Liam Torrez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

As for Garden City, their victory bumped their record up to 5-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Garden City's side, Jakobe Rathbun made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Rathbun a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Garden City is 3-1 when Rathbun posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-7 otherwise.

In other pitching news, Kaven Carbajal tossed a big game, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

Back at the plate, Garden City got a massive performance out of Culden Plankenhorn, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Plankenhorn has posted since back in May of 2024. Bo Roth was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Dodge City beat Garden City by a score of 9-7 later that day.
