Basketball Recap: Caden Puckett's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lake Creek over Huntsville

Lake Creek was the 78-76 winner over Huntsville when they last played one another back in February of 2020, but their luck changed this time around. The Lake Creek Lions received a blow on Friday as they fell 69-53 to the Huntsville Hornets. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 459th, while the Hornets are ranked 214th).

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caden Puckett, who went 5 for 12 en route to 12 points and three steals. Puckett is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Mcshan, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Lake Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Lake Creek has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season. As for Huntsville, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-5.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Lake Creek Lions face off against the A&M Consolidated Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.4 points per game this season. As for Huntsville, they will challenge College Station at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Huntsville knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully College Station likes a good challenge.
