The Polytechnic Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Chadwick Dolphins at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Polytechnic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Polytechnic was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Westridge on Friday. The Panthers blew past the Tigers 16-4. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Panthers considering their two-run performance the game before.
Amelia Shih was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eila Chan, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two triples. What's more, she posted three runs, the most she's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Carthan Connolly, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Polytechnic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Chadwick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 8-1 to Rio Hondo Prep.
Like Polytechnic, Chadwick also got a great game from a two-way player: Sammy Santa Ana. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off one hit. Santa Ana was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
Polytechnic now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Chadwick, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Chadwick's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Polytechnic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. It's a different story for Chadwick, though, as they've only averaged .224. Will they be able to contain Polytechnic's hitters?
Everything went Polytechnic's way against Chadwick when the teams last played back in April, as Polytechnic made off with a 6-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
