Softball Game Preview: Romeo Bulldogs vs. Stoney Creek Cougars

The Romeo Bulldogs will challenge the Stoney Creek Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Romeo took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Utica Eisenhower by a score of 6-3. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Katie Murphy looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Ava Yaklin and Jess McLeod did most of the damage at the plate: Yaklin went 1-for-4 with one home run, while McLeod went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That home run was Yaklin's first of the season. Bailey Anton was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Romeo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Stoney Creek entered their tilt with Rochester on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They skirted past the Falcons 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since May 20, 2024.

Romeo's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for Stoney Creek, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.
