Basketball Recap: Spring Valley Comes Up Short

Spring Valley and Mauldin squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Spring Valley had to settle for second. They came up short against the Mavericks, falling 71-51. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Mavericks: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the defeat, Spring Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Chris McClenic went 6-for-13 on his way to 15 points and seven rebounds. Christian Davis was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

Mauldin's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jackson Armbruster, who posted 14 points. That's the most points Armbruster has posted since back in January of 2025. Another player making a difference was Tamari Shepherd, who shot 56% from the field en route to 12 points.

Spring Valley's loss dropped their record down to 10-16. As for Mauldin, they now have a winning record of 14-13.

Spring Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mauldin, they are taking a road trip to face off against Dutch Fork at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Mavericks' defense better be ready for this one: the Silver Foxes have averaged an impressive 65.4 points per game this season.
