Basketball Recap: Pasadena Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Alazay Olivares and Emily De La Garza

Pasadena was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost to the Kingwood Park Panthers on the road by a 52-35 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1273rd, while the Panthers are ranked 533rd).

Despite the loss, Pasadena had strong showings from Emily De La Garza, who posted 13 points and five rebounds, and Alazay Olivares, who put up eight points and three steals. That was a full 37.1% of Pasadena's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Pasadena smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Leading Kingwood Park to victory were Aniah Cross and Asia Martin. Cross earned 25 points and five steals, while Martin posted 15 points along with six steals and five boards. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Cross has scored at least a third of Kingwood Park's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anya Henry, who put up two points along with nine rebounds and four steals.

Pasadena's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Kingwood Park, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Crosby the next time they take the court. Kingwood Park will head out to face Crosby at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Pasadena will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
