Basketball Recap: Hammond Skyhawks vs. Charlotte Latin Hawks
Hammond was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Charlotte Latin Hawks, falling 67-25. The Skyhawks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.
Leading Charlotte Latin to victory were Lanie Edwards and Charlotte Tune. Edwards went 8 of 10 en route to 19 points and eight rebounds, while Tune went 7 of 14 on her way to 20 points and six steals. Tune is becoming a predictor of Charlotte Latin's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Wallace Roberts, who posted four points and four steals.
Hammond's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Charlotte Latin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.
Hammond will challenge Curtis Baptist at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Charlotte Latin, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-13 victory against Charlotte Christian on the 7th.
