Basketball Recap: Asheville Comes Up Short

Asheville won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They had to suffer through a 84-53 loss at the hands of the Erwin Warriors. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Warriors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Asheville lost, don't look at Aidan Shaw. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 10 en route to 20 points and seven rebounds. Those 20 points gave Shaw a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendrick Carter, who posted four points and nine rebounds.

Carson Wallace continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Erwin, dropping a double-double on 27 points and ten rebounds. Erwin is 6-3 when Wallace posts ten or more boards, but 2-3 otherwise. Michael Petty was another key player, going 5 of 9 on his way to 10 points along with five boards and three steals.

Asheville's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Erwin, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-6.

Asheville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-58 defeat against Crest on the 4th. As for Erwin, they will face off against A.C. Reynolds at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
