Softball Recap: Dreher Comes Up Short

Dreher lost against Aiken back in March of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Blue Devils fell just short of the Fighting Green Hornets by a score of 7-6.

Anna Coates put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kendall Gipson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kari Denard, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

Dreher's record is now 6-9. As for Aiken, they moved to 2-13 with that win, which also ended their seven-game losing streak.

Coming up, Dreher will head out on the road to square off against A.C. Flora at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Blue Devils' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Aiken, they will host South Aiken at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Thoroughbreds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.33 runs per game on average), something the Fighting Green Hornets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
