Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Weston Sharpe and Chris Bennett Lead Fruita Monument to Victory

It was a proper cat-fight when Fruita Monument challenged Grand Junction on Friday. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Tigers 10-7. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Chris Bennett and Weston Sharpe. Bennett rushed for 123 yards while Sharpe rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown.

Fruita Monument was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 292 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 165 rushing yards in five consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Fruita Monument's record now sits at 3-1. As for Grand Junction, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 3-1.

Looking ahead, Fruita Monument is taking a road trip to face off against Montrose at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Hawks' defense has only allowed 8.5 points per game this season, so the Wildcats' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Grand Junction, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 31-0 loss against Durango on the 25th.
