Baseball Recap: Paxton Sets Scoring Season-High Against Poplar Springs

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Paxton). They blew past the Poplar Springs Atomics 15-2 on Thursday. With that win, the Bobcats brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Phillip Bearden was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Bearden was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cade Stewart, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Colby Vaiyanet, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Paxton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Paxton's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Poplar Springs, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Looking ahead, Paxton will head out to take on Baker at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bobcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gators have averaged an impressive 11.4 runs per game this season. As for Poplar Springs, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Bethlehem at 6:00 p.m. The Atomics are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
