Softball Recap: Rockwall Yellowjackets vs. Wakeland Wolverines
Rockwall extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-7. They came up short against the Wakeland Wolverines, falling 11-0. The Yellowjackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
As for Wakeland, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average this season.
For Wakeland's part, Jordan Mcnees looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Mcnees has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lauren McIllwain was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Ella Faris, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.
Looking ahead, Rockwall will challenge Coppell at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wakeland, they will face off against McKinney at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.43 runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of.
