Basketball Game Preview: Howland Tigers vs. Newton Falls Tigers

The Howland Tigers will take on the Newton Falls Tigers in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Howland is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season.

Howland is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past LaBrae 60-40 on Tuesday. The Tigers pushed the score to 47-25 by the end of the third, a deficit the Vikings cut but never quite recovered from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Howland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Darren Douglas, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds. Luca Naples was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Howland smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Newton Falls came up short against Estill County on Saturday and fell 57-50. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Howland's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Newton Falls, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Howland was able to grind out a solid win over Newton Falls when the teams last played back in December of 2023, winning 51-38. Will Howland repeat their success, or does Newton Falls have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
