Softball Recap: Syracuse Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Syracuse, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They put the hurt on the Layton Lancers with a sharp 17-2 win on Tuesday. The Titans have beaten the Lancers the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Lancers has come to flipping the script.

Haydin Giatras looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.

On the hitting side, Olivia Harker and Grace Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: Harker went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles, while Thomas went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave Harker a new career-high. Jaidyn Franco also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Syracuse always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .719. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Syracuse's record is now 13-10. As for Layton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-16.

Looking ahead, Syracuse will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Farmington at 3:30 p.m. The Titans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Phoenix have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season. As for Layton, they are taking a road trip to face off against Bountiful at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The RedHawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Lancers surely won't give up without a fight.
