Baseball Recap: Williams Comes Up Short

Williams dropped to 13-7-1 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Mohave Accelerated Patriots by a score of 8-7. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.

Jaxon Steng was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Jace Maebe was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times he's played. Daniel Rigo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double.

As for Mohave Accelerated, the win got them back to even at 6-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 28, 2025.

On Mohave Accelerated's side, Martin Abundiz was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Abundiz is becoming a predictor of the Patriots' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't). Vince Garcia also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Williams will square off against Mogollon at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mohave Accelerated, they will challenge Madison Highland Prep at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Heat have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season.
