Basketball Recap: Alex Reyes Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Panorama

Sylmar had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They walked away with a 70-62 victory over the Panorama Pythons on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Spartans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Sylmar's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alex Reyes, who posted 14 points in addition to six boards and three steals. What's more, Reyes also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Tim Tanner, who went 7 for 14 en route to 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Sylmar was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Panorama lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Raphael Latorre, who earned 12 points in addition to seven steals and six assists. Latorre has become a key player for Panorama: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least five steals, but 5-6 otherwise. Eddie Munguia was another key player, putting up 17 points and six boards.

Sylmar's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-13. As for Panorama, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sylmar will challenge San Fernando at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sylmar is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season. As for Panorama, they will take on Castaic at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
