Softball Recap: Canfield Comes Up Short

Canfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Steubenville on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Big Red by a score of 11-9. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Big Red this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 back in March.

Jenna Triveri made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Sami Economous, who went 3-for-6 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Canfield has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Steubenville, their win bumped their record up to 13-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canfield will take on Cardinal Mooney at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Cardinal Mooney's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Canfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Steubenville, they will be taking part in a tournament against Tri-Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Big Red's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Scotties have averaged an impressive 6.8 runs per game this season.
