KCI recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Lawson, who took down 83rd ranked Lawson, 26-21.
Lathrop moved up to 67 from 129 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in KCI. The Mules were able to make the jump by beating the Cardinals 26-21.
Mid-Buchanan's dynamic duo of Dalton Robinson and Jimmy Scott proved tough for East Buchanan to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Robinson threw for 112 yards and Scott had 49 yards receiving. Colton Hoffman helped Mid-Buchanan's passing attack out by catching six balls for 48 yards.
Derrick Hughes was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 244 yards as Penney fell to the Bulldogs. Teammate Kellen Overstreet added to the ground attack by rushing for 144 yards.
Alec Bullimore made the biggest impact on defense this week as Mid-Buchanan lost to East Buchanan. The junior recorded one fumble and racked up one sack.
On the ground, the Hornets' Hughes has rushed for 947 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Overstreet. The Penney star has six catches for 164 yards.
Penney's Hughes needs only 53 yards against West Platte next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in KCI this week will be when Dave Fairchild's team takes on the Bluejays. As it stands, the Hornets are in first, while West Platte is in fourth.
Lathrop was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to second in the league. Mike Thompson's team beat Lawson 26-21 earlier in the week.
