Basketball Recap: Calverton Takes a Loss

Calverton lost against Avalon back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Calverton were outmatched by the Avalon Black Knights and fell 82-46. While losing is never fun, Calverton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 242nd, while Avalon is ranked 97th).

Avalon found their leader in freshman Jordan Fox, who went 10 for 16 on his way to 26 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Fox's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Toran Ayana, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Calverton has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Avalon, they pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Calverton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 77-36 defeat against Takoma Academy on the 3rd. As for Avalon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 77-69 victory against Lanham Christian on the 1st.
