Basketball Recap: Matthew Martinez Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Plantation

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Somerset Academy, West Broward was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 68-60 win over the Plantation Colonels. For the Bobcats, this counts as revenge for the 69-53 victory the Colonels walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Broward to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew Martinez, who went 6 for 15 on his way to 27 points and seven boards. That makes it four consecutive games in which Martinez has scored at least a third of West Broward's points. Another player making a difference was Bedirhan Menguc, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds.

West Broward's record now sits at 6-12. As for Plantation, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-14.

The future could be bright for both West Broward and Plantation: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. West Broward will try to hand Piper their fourth-straight loss when the two meet on Monday. Meanwhile, Plantation will look to extend Hollywood Hills' 14-game losing streak when the meet on Monday.
