Softball Preview: O'Fallon Panthers vs. Granite City Warriors

O'Fallon has gone a perfect 5-0 against Granite City recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The O'Fallon Panthers will challenge the Granite City Warriors at 4:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Panthers fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Wednesday's season opener. They won by a run and slipped past Highland 5-4. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Kennedy Clark was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Haylee Williams was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Madison Peek was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

O'Fallon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland only managed seven hits.

After ending last season with six straight defeats, Granite City opened this season with a bang. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Marquette Catholic a 2-0 shutout on Tuesday.

The result came thanks to Christine Myers's shutout, as she gave up just five hits.

On the hitting side, Granite City's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Emilee Saggio, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

O'Fallon took their win against Granite City in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 by a conclusive 13-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for O'Fallon since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
