Softball Recap: Lakeland Triumphs

Lakeland's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Honesdale Hornets 7-5. This was payback for the Chiefs, who suffered a 12-11 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Olivia Lach was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Mick Eremo was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She also put up a stolen base, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kamri Naniewicz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Lakeland now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Honesdale, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Coming up, Lakeland will welcome Mid Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Honesdale, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Old Forge at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
