Basketball Recap: Newberry Comes Up Short

Newberry was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Irmo Yellow Jackets, falling 75-11. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 69-23 on December 11th.

Irmo found their leader in sophomore Abby Livingston, who went 14 for 27 on her way to 32 points and seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Livingston has scored all season. Lailah Singletary was another key player, going 8 of 15 on her way to 20 points and six steals.

Newberry's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Irmo, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.

Newberry will take on East Gaston in a tournament on Monday. As for Irmo, they will be taking part in a tournament against Gaffney at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Gaffney's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
