Baseball Game Preview: Clover Blue Eagles vs. Northwestern Trojans

For the second straight game, Clover will face off against Northwestern. Clover is taking a road trip to square off against Northwestern at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clover has three straight victories, Northwestern has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Clover didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Northwestern by a score of 8-5 on Wednesday.

Kyle Kirkland was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Kirkland wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gavin McNulty, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Tyler Fan also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Northwestern's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Clover, their record is now 8-4.
