Baseball Recap: Kilgore Beats Cumberland Academy for Their Third Straight Victory

Kilgore entered their tilt with Cumberland Academy on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Knights a 12-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-1 last Tuesday.

Tanner Beets was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. Kilgore is 2-1 when Beets allowsone or fewer hits, but 6-11-1 otherwise. Beets was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Kaeson Clayton looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Kilgore: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 6-11-1 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Kolton Hale was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Cason Edney, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Kilgore's win bumped their record up to 8-12-1. As for Cumberland Academy, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Bulldogs coming up. As for Cumberland Academy, they will take on Gilmer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
