Softball Preview: Western Harnett Eagles vs. Triton Hawks

Western Harnett has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Triton Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Western Harnett knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with flashy run totals in its past four matches -- so hopefully Triton likes a good challenge.

In what's become a running theme this season, Western Harnett gave their fans yet another huge win on Monday. Everything went their way against Overhills as Western Harnett made off with an 18-3 victory.

Grace Andersen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (she also only allowed one walk). Andersen was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Faith Woodard, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. Madison Wear was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last five games, Triton finally came back down to earth on Wednesday. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 10-1 walloping at the hands of South Johnston. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest runs Triton has scored all season.

Triton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bailey Johnson, who went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Western Harnett's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those good results were due in large part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs per game. As for Triton, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.

Both Western Harnett and Triton just can't seem to miss. Western Harnett has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Triton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.7. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Western Harnett came up short against Triton in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, falling 5-1. Can Western Harnett avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
