League recap: Hertford County climbs in standings with win

3A/2A Northeastern Coastal recap Oct. 3, 2012

Hertford County was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 3A/2A Northeastern Coastal. The Bears beat Currituck County 28-0 earlier in the week.

Northeastern took down Bertie 55-12 last week, the largest margin of any game.

First Flight's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Nathan Parker threw for 115 yards and Billy Foster had 81 yards receiving. On the ground Wyatt Robertson chipped in 99 yards. Dennis Mullen helped First Flight's passing attack out by catching four balls for 34 yards.

Landon Leithauser made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Night Hawks bested Pasquotank. The 5-foot-8 junior grabbed one sack.

First Flight's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Night Hawks feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Parker has thrown for 509 yards and seven touchdowns this season, while Foster has 17 catches for 333 yards. Robertson leads the league in rushing with 593 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when First Flight takes on Holmes. At the moment, Jim Prince's team is in third, while the Aces are in first.

The Eagles led 3A/2A Northeastern Coastal in scoring this week after putting up 55 points on Bertie.
