Softball Recap: ROWVA/Williamsfield's Win on Saturday Extends Winning Streak to Three

ROWVA/Williamsfield barely beat Knoxville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars put the hurt on the Blue Bullets with a sharp 8-2 victory on Saturday. The win was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on three straight.

Hannah Gehring spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, ROWVA/Williamsfield let Riley Smith and Ella Rigg run wild. Smith went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Rigg went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Miller, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

ROWVA/Williamsfield hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The victory got ROWVA/Williamsfield back to even at 5-5. As for Knoxville, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-6.

ROWVA/Williamsfield and Knoxville could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Cougars will take on Alleman at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (381 vs. 54). Meanwhile, Knoxville (ranked 336th) will meet Brimfield (ranked 76th) at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
