League recap: In 1 vs. 2 face-off, Woodford County takes down Franklin County

District 41 league recap: 5/29/12

Woodford County beat Franklin County this week, 3-1, in a matchup of the league's top two teams on Wednesday. Woodford County sits in first place in District 41 at 7-1 (32-9 overall).

The Yellowjackets (32-9, 7-1) are riding a league-best 8-game winning streak. The streak was extended by another two games over the past week, including a 3-1 victory over Franklin County and a 3-1 win over Western Hills.

Franklin County's pitching was especially stingy this week, allowing four hits and seven walks to lead the league in both categories. The Flyers have given up a mere 184 hits on the year, while striking out 241 opposing hitters. Nick Cumpston is the leader in that category with 83 Ks on the season.

Quentin Brownlee led the league with six hits this week for Franklin County. His 36 hits for the year are fourth in the league, and he boasts a .375 batting average.



Franklin County's Brandon Smither threw five shutout innings in a 9-1 win over Frankfort on Tuesday. He struck out six, allowing two hits.
