Softball Recap: Glencoe Triumphs

Glencoe had won three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they bumped their record up to 14-5 to make it four. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Century Jaguars 4-2. The win continues a trend for the Crimson Tide in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won six in a row.

Lexi Brester spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits.

At the plate, Glencoe saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makena Petrick, who went 1-for-4 with one triple. That triple marked the first that Petrick has hit this season.

As for Century, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-10. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 12-5 Forest Grove (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.1% over those games).

On Century's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Alyssa Loza gave up four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. Loza has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Glencoe will challenge rival Forest Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Crimson Tide 2.7, the Vikings 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Century is set to face off against their familiar foe Liberty at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
