Softball Recap: Freeport Victorious

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Freeport ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the West Port Wolf Pack 9-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted since April 9, 2024.

Kaylee Carroll made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching eight innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off five hits. Carroll was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.

In other batting news, Faith McDonald was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Annsleigh Withey, who went 3-for-5 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI.

Freeport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Freeport's record is now 2-3. As for West Port, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Freeport will be playing in front of their home fans against Donelson Christian Academy at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Port, they will square off against Mobile Christian at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
