Softball Recap: Shorewood Has No Trouble Against Lynnwood

Shorewood had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Lynnwood on Friday. The Stormrays were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over the Royals. The Stormrays might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.

Emma Kellum and Emily Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Kellum pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Scott pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Kellum scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Scott scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Carver, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Charlotte Copacino was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Shorewood's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-4. As for Lynnwood, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Shorewood will take on Archbishop Murphy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Stormrays' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 11.4 runs per game this season. As for Lynnwood, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Shorecrest at 6:30 p.m. on the 16th.
