Basketball Game Preview: Valley Vista Monsoon vs. Westwood Warriors

The Valley Vista Monsoon will square off against the Westwood Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Valley Vista lost 69-44 to Willow Canyon on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Monsoon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Wildcats are ranked sixth).

Valley Vista's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Justin Rhodes, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points, and TyTy Bynum, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 11 points. The dominant performance gave Rhodes a new career-high in points.

Meanwhile, Westwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They took a blow against Chandler, falling 65-34. The contest marked the Warriors' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Westwood's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Valley Vista, they dropped their record down to 1-8 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Everything came up roses for Valley Vista against Westwood when the teams last played back in February of 2021, as the team secured a 92-29 win. Will Valley Vista repeat their success, or does Westwood have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
