Basketball Game Preview: Wauneta-Palisade Broncos vs. Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves

The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos will face off against the Maywood/Hayes Center Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wauneta-Palisade has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Wauneta-Palisade is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. Everything went their way against Sutherland last Friday as Wauneta-Palisade made off with a 63-40 win. The Broncos pushed the score to 53-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Sailors cut but never quite recovered from.

Grayden Sutherland was a one-man wrecking crew for Wauneta-Palisade as he went 7-for-12 to rack up 21 points and six boards. The dominant performance also gave Sutherland a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (56%). Another player making a difference was Aden Acton, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Wauneta-Palisade was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Maywood/Hayes Center played a tough match on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 78-38 loss at the hands of Ogallala. The Wolves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-24.

Wauneta-Palisade's victory ended a 12-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-16. As for Maywood/Hayes Center, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-8.

Wauneta-Palisade might still be hurting after the 59-34 loss they got from Maywood/Hayes Center in their previous meeting back in January. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wauneta-Palisade was down 31-11.
