Basketball Recap: Putnam City Comes Up Short

Putnam City and Edmond Memorial squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but Putnam City had to settle for second. They came up short against the Edmond Memorial Bulldogs, falling 62-41. That's two games in a row now that the Pirates have lost by exactly 21 points.

Edmond Memorial got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Janiyah Williams out in front who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 12 boards. The matchup was Williams' 20th in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Hjelmstad, who went 5-for-11 to rack up 17 points along with three steals and three blocks.

Putnam City has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Edmond Memorial pushed their record up to 23-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home.

Putnam City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Edmond Memorial, they will take on Norman at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Norman will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Edmond Memorial surely won't give up without a fight.
