Preview: St. Joseph Spartans vs. Aquinas Academy Crusaders
St. Joseph and Aquinas Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The St. Joseph Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Aquinas Academy Crusaders at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Joseph is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
St. Joseph suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Friday. They took a serious blow against Neighborhood Academy, falling 77-15. St. Joseph has struggled against Neighborhood Academy recently, as their match on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Meanwhile, Aquinas Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They took a 90-82 hit to the loss column at the hands of Serra Catholic. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
St. Joseph's defeat dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Aquinas Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
St. Joseph suffered a grim 68-47 defeat to Aquinas Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Thankfully for St. Joseph, Vinnie Cugini (who scored 38 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
