Alex Lindahl, a senior at Hartland (Mich.), is lucky to be alive today after suffering an unlikely injury on Tuesday.

While competing for Hartland at a track and field meet, Lindahl's pole vaulting pole snapped, and one half of the stick impaled his orbital bone, according to the Detroit Free-Press.

Lindahl was rushed to the hospital and eventually underwent surgery.

"Luckily, doctors were able to fix his eye, but it's whether or not his vision will fully be back to normal is the question," Jason Reck, the Hartland athletic director, told the Free Press.

"We are fortunate that the Dexter coaches reacted so quick to rush him to the hospital and that University of Michigan acted as quickly as they did."

The injury has not deterred Lindahl, who announced on Twitter that his graduation party was still on.
