Recap: Monticello Panthers vs. Sullivan West Bulldogs
The Monticello Panthers lost against the Sullivan West Bulldogs back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The matchup between both teams wasn't particularly close, with Monticello falling 39-20. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 516th, while Sullivan West is ranked 244th).
Despite the defeat, Monticello saw an underclassman step up: Morgan Hutchins dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Hutchins has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Amiah Neails was another key contributor, scoring three points along with four steals.
Monticello's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Sullivan West, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monticello will take on Cornwall Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Cornwall Central is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Sullivan West won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Liberty at 5:30 p.m. on January 11th. Liberty is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
