Softball Recap: Avenal Comes Up Short

Avenal dropped their record down to 15-6-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Coalinga Horned Toads, falling 21-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Horned Toads this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-1 back in April.

Avenal saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Deztiny Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

As for Coalinga, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games.

On Coalinga's side, they got a great performance from Cabella Redding as she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Redding has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brooklyn Davis was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Minayah Singleton, who went 2-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one double.

Avenal didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 12-3 win against Firebaugh on the 6th. As for Coalinga, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-3 victory against Mendota on the 6th.
