Baseball Game Preview: Xaverian Clippers vs. Holy Trinity Titans

Xaverian is a perfect 3-0 against Holy Trinity since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Clippers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Titans at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Xaverian is returning to their home field after beating St. John's Prep on theirs, despite the fact St. John's Prep has dominated at home this season. The Clippers walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Red Storm on Wednesday.

Emmet Gleason looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Xaverian's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Danny Cronin, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Jake Lanzaro also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, while Holy Trinity put up some runs on Wednesday, the same can't be said for St. Dominic. The Titans were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Bayhawks. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won four contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Holy Trinity is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Xaverian, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6.

Xaverian was able to grind out a solid win over Holy Trinity in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, winning 6-3. Will the Clippers repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
