Basketball Recap: Aurora West College Prep Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Maria Gutierrez Benitez and Clementine Uwamahoro

Aurora West College Prep Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 40-26 fall against the Twin Peaks Classical Academy Timberwolves. The Spartans lost against the Timberwolves in their previous head to head back in November of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 40-5 score last time.

Aurora West College Prep Academy's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Clementine Uwamahoro, who posted five points and eight boards, and Maria Gutierrez Benitez, who had ten points and seven steals. That was a full 38.5% of Aurora West College Prep Academy's points, marking the fourth time in a row Gutierrez Benitez has put up more than a third of the team's points.

It was another big night for Kaleigh Van Pelt, who dropped a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 steals for Twin Peaks Classical Academy. The game was Van Pelt's third in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mikah Sickau, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 17 boards.

Aurora West College Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Twin Peaks Classical Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-8.

Looking ahead, Aurora West College Prep Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against STEM School Highlands Ranch at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Twin Peaks Classical Academy, they will head out to square off against Loveland Classical at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Loveland Classical will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Twin Peaks Classical Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
