Football Recap: Weslaco East Takes a Loss

Weslaco East played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 49-6 loss at the hands of the Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Elias Rodriguez, who rushed for 145 yards. Weslaco East is 4-2 when Rodriguez posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 0-3 otherwise.

Andrew Charlebois continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, rushing for 265 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.5 yards per carry. Those five rushing touchdowns gave Charlebois a new career-high.

Weslaco East now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Weslaco East will square off against rival Harlingen South at 7:30 p.m. on the 7th. Meanwhile, Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial is set to challenge their familiar foe Flour Bluff at 7:00 p.m. on the 7th. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Eagles 12.2, the Hornets 10.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
