Softball Recap: Tohatchi Cougars vs. Grants Pirates
On Friday, the Tohatchi Cougars fell victim to a rough 17-1 loss at the hands of the Grants Pirates. Tohatchi has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
For Grants' part, Alynn Othole was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Othole was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI.
In other batting news, Aubrhyanna Garcia was incredible, going 4-for-4 with a home run, four runs, and four RBI. Melia Chavez was another key contributor, going 3-for-3 with four RBI, a run, and a double.
Tohatchi's defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2. As for Grants, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-11.
Tohatchi will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Lordsburg at 4:00 p.m. As for Grants, they will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Taos at 11:25 a.m. Grants is facing Taos at the right time seeing as Taos is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
