The Delphi Community Oracles will head out to square off against the West Lafayette Red Devils at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Delphi Community is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Delphi Community is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since May 17, 2025 on Saturday. They came up short against Benton Central, falling 12-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Oracles, who until this matchup were averaging 4.1 runs allowed.
Ava Mills and Sami Leopard did some serious damage despite the final result: Mills went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI, while Leopard got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, West Lafayette waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Athenians with a sharp 19-3 win. Considering the Red Devils have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Molly Mansfield made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, West Lafayette got a massive performance out of Eleanor Hurt, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI Hurt has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Paola Eifler, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
West Lafayette hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matchups.
West Lafayette's record now sits at 9-2. As for Delphi Community, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-4.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Delphi Community has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like West Lafayette struggles in that department as they've averaged .448. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Delphi Community couldn't quite get it done against West Lafayette in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 as they fell 14-9. Can the Oracles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
