Football Recap: Chino Valley Cougars vs. Maryvale Panthers

After flying high against Bourgade Catholic last Friday, Chino Valley came back down to earth. The Chino Valley Cougars took a blow against the Maryvale Panthers on Friday, falling 42-14. Despite 75 more yards than the Panthers, the Cougars couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Chino Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kai Holmes, who picked up 78 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Ben Sibole was another key player, having thrown for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

Maryvale found their leader in underclassman Devin Murphy, who rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries.

Chino Valley dropped their record down to 2-2 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Maryvale, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Chino Valley will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Payson at 7:00 p.m. on September 27th. As for Maryvale, they will challenge Combs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Combs will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Maryvale surely won't give up without a fight.
