Basketball Game Preview: Waverly Central Tigers vs. Huntingdon Mustangs

Waverly Central is 0-3 against Huntingdon since December of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Waverly Central Tigers will look to defend their home court against the Huntingdon Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with 14 losses in a row dating back to last season, Waverly Central turned things around against Perry County on Tuesday. They walked away with a 52-45 win over the Vikings. The Tigers' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, Huntingdon entered their tilt with McKenzie on Tuesday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Rebels, posting a 65-21 victory. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 131st, while the Rebels are ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Huntingdon has also been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.8 points per game. As for Waverly Central, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-13.
